Results

Under 16

Killarney Athletic 1 Listowel Celtic 3. In the last 16 in the cup Athletic found themselves one nil down at half time having played well. A silly goal left a mountain to climb but our boys stood up and got one back through Coilte. Fighting hard to get a second we were caught on a bad counter attack. Very unlucky on the day with Killian Courtnay best on the day for Athletic. Sam Benson, Alex Hennighan and Mattew Horgan also playing well. Great to have Dara and Alex back after illness.

Under 15

The under 15 team went down away to Camp on a day when many regulars were missing.

Under 13

Our under 13 team bowed out of the cup against Premier league leaders Tralee Dynamos on a score line 2 – 1. In the game Athletic played really well and dominated most of the game. We were very unlucky with some glorious chances in the first half not to go in at the break 1 or 2 up. The tempo was upped in the second half and in true cup fashion there were chances for both sides. Dynamos got the luck with a dubious penalty and pushed on to go 2 – 0 up with 15 minutes to go, but in true Blue fashion our boys grinded really hard and were rewarded with a great shot by Owen Benson to bring it back to 2 – 1. At this stage it was end to end with Athletic pushing all the way with at least 4 good chances. The clock was ticking too fast for us and with a minute left the Dynamos keeper pulled the ball off the line and so the cup run was over. It was a brilliant performance from our boys and they should be proud of the effort and the level at which they played on the day. They are making steady progress and hopefully before the end of the season they will get just reward. It was a real team performance from everyone. Well done to all involved. Man of the match : Emmett Finnan.
