Seniors progress to 1/2 finals of the Greyhound

Greyhound Cup ¼ Final
Killarney Athletic 2 Castlegregory 1
Played on a greasy surface in Killarney Athletic Park, the seniors made hard work of disposing of a resilient Castlegregory side which had dispensed of Lisselton Rovers in the last 16. Castlegregory could have gone ahead with gaps opening all over but soon enough Athletic settled with James Coffey and David Gleeson easing into the game. Solid defender Gary Moynihan rose highest to steer Brian O’Reilly’s corner home and although many more chances presented themselves before half-time, Athletic remained only a precarious one to the good at the break.
O’Reilly turned finisher for number two with a smash from the left after Denis Galvin was denied and it really looked to be all over for the visitors. They managed to pull one back soon after though and Brian O’Connor prevented a certain equaliser with a brilliant leap. Despite the best efforts of Joe Hurley, Paul Lynch and Ryan O’Carroll, the score line remained 2-1 at full time.
A solid team performance then but more clinical finishing will be needed to reach the final.
