Killarney Athletic Notes
Killarney Athletic ‘A’ v Rattoo Rovers
On Thursday night Killarney Athletic’s ‘A’ beat Rattoo Rovers in the Greyhound Bar Cup replay away in a very tight and bumpy pitch. Brian O’Reilly scored Athletic goal from the spot in normal time as the game finished 1.1. Mark Griffin scored the winning penalty after Brian O’Conner had earlier saved 1.
Killarney Athletic ‘A’ v Spa Road
On Sunday last in the Castlebar Cup Killarney Athletic ‘A’s beat Spa Road 7.2 after going behind 2.1 Athletic lead at half time 4.2 goals from Shane Bunion. Rory O’Sullivan and 2 from Pedro Martins. Martins added 3 more in the second half as Athletic ran out easy winners at the end great performance from the boys and great attitude when we were missing 7 regulars.
Killarney Athletic ‘B’ 3 Dingle Bay Rovers 2
Athletic advanced to the next round of the Reserve Cup thanks to a Cian Tobin ‘hat trick’. Dingle came into the tie as warm favourites as they are presently way out on top of the division and look certain for promotion. However this Athletic side doesn’t fear anyone on their home patch but in truth they can thank Tobin for the victory as he was the real difference between the sides on the day. Dingle were on top early on but it was Tobin who broke the deadlock on 15 minutes with a good finish after stretching the defence with his pace. The West Kerry boys enjoyed plenty of possession as they dominated the midfield battle throughout but got little change from the determined Athletic defence of Tommy Ryan, Micheal O’Sullivan and the two Sean Donoghues. KJ Griffin made an excellent save on 25 minutes but could do nothing to prevent an equaliser soon after. Tobin put the home side back in front on 40 minutes with a low drive from 12 yards. The game was level again on 60 minutes when Dingle scored after a series of corner kicks. Athletic upped the pace again with Ryan Carroll proving more of a treat as the half wore on, then on 75 minutes Tobin struck again for what proved to be the winner when he ran on to Ossie’s flick on and slide the ball past the advancing keeper. Athletic will be pleased with the result but know that the overall performance will not get them into the latter stages of the competition.
Under 12 Kerry Cup
Killarney Athletic 0 Listowel Celtic 2
On Thursday evening we travelled to Listowel for a cup tie. We were unlucky not to take the lead in the first 5 minutes when Ronan Buckley hit the crossbar. Listowel took the lead against the run of play midway through the first half and some very sloppy defending let Listowel in again before half time. The second half was always going to be an uphill battle and with Listowel very strong in defence we were unable to get anything out of the game.
Under 12 Nottingham Forest Trip
Last weekend our under 12 team travelled to Nottingham Forest's underage Academy. We had 3 training sessions with the Nottingham Forest coaches and played the Nottingham Forest under 12 Academy team. All 22 players played a part in the game and everyone played very well. The trip was a huge success. We would like to thank everyone who helped in any way, especially those who generously sponsored our fundraising draw, Brian James and M.D O’Sheas. We would also like to thank the Vanilla Pod, Dawn Dairies and Super Valu for their kind donations.
