Seniors
Killarney Athletic 3 Asdee 1
Hard fought victory against Asdee in the cup replay today, winning 3-1 on the dreaded penalty shoot out, Rafa the hero in goal saving 3 penalties while Shane and Jamie Doolan along with Bunyan scored our spot kicks. Brian O’Reilly scored in normal time for us. Ratoo away in the quarter final next.
Under 14
Killarney Athletic 0 Park 3
Going into this game, Athletic were a point behind Park so a win would guarantee the league title. Unfortunately the occasion got to them and it wasn’t to be. Park scoring all 3 goals after silly Athletic mistakes. Overall, it’s been a great season with Lorcan McMonagle named as Player of the year when a number of players could have won the award, most notably Darren Mulcahy. A big thank you to parents who provided the teams and supporters with a huge amount of refreshments after the game. Brilliant as always and one very proud manager thanking you all for the great support as always.
Kerry Referees
Well done to Kerry referees who have the honour of reffing the FAI Youths Final. Brian Healy is ref, Owen Moynihan and Kevin Cunningham linesmen with Stuart Templeman 4th official. This is great for Kerry soccer where they are recognising the standard of refereeing.
Killarney Athletic A.F.C. Under 11 Development weekend 2013
Date 17th, 18th & 19th May
Robin O’Day is the director of this Under 11 soccer weekend our club is hosting in May.
This event is not a tournament but friendly matches. Emphasis is based on player development. 9 a side matches. Teams play min of 5 games over the weekend. Matches are 30 minutes. This is about clubs coming and playing a minimum of 5 matches each & giving everyone of their players plenty of game time in a fun safe environment. We have clubs coming from 7 different schoolboys leagues. Too many potentially good young players are being destroyed at a young age due to so many coaches win at all cost and instant success philosophy. This philosophy does not encourage players to try things on the pitch hence a fear of doing the wrong thing on the pitch seriously diminishes young players confidence. Let them play, Let them try things, Let them make mistakes, Let them learn from mistakes. This weekend is an ideal scenario for coaches to bring teams to play in uncompetitive situations and play with the freedom that should be done at this age. To learn you first have to make mistakes.
Condolences: Killarney Athletic A.F.C. wish their deepest sympathies to the chairman of Castleisland AFC Mike Brosnan whose father Francis sadly passed away recently.
