Killarney Athletic A.F.C. Notes
Denny Premier A
Killarney Celtic 0 Killarney Athletic 0
The seniors continued their return to form with a well-earned draw away to neighbours Killarney Celtic. The game began in earnest with Celtic making the most of their possession and Athletic a little slow to get on the ball. With Cian Tobin and Niall O’Riordan showing good flashes up front and the back five solid, Athletic came more into it but Celtic were unlucky not to go ahead before the break. The second half produced two close efforts with Tobin hitting the post in an attempt to put Athletic into the lead and a fine strike from Peter McCarthy was touched onto the bar by the impressive O’Connor for Athletic. Conor Farrell’s exit for a second yellow meant the young central midfield of David King and O’Riordan had to step up to the mark and they performed well on the day. There was good work also from the back four and O’Connor and Lukas Polak. In a great team effort, Alan O’Connor and Colm O’Donoghue will be hoping for continued momentum as they seek to combine experience with youth.
Team: Brian O’Connor, Ryan O’ Carroll, David Looney, Billy McGuire, Brian O’Reilly, Eamon Ahern, Conor Farrell, Lukas Polak, Niall O’ Riordan, Cian Tobin, Shane Bunyan, David King, Gary Moynihan.
Senior B Team
The senior B team went down 1-0 to Ballymac Galaxy on Sunday in an evenly contested match. The team were very composed in possession and solid at the back all through the game. A lapse in concentration for only a few seconds allowed the Ballymac winger to race in on goal after a one-two. The team will de disappointed however at the lack of chances they created in the game but overall a very good performance.
Under 13
Both under 13 teams were in action on Saturday in the Kerry Cups. First up the first team took on St Brendans Park who had only drawn 1-1 in the league two weeks ago. With the intensity of the play at high speed, Athletic took the spoils with goals from Blake Bolster, Michael Potts (overhead kick) and Ciaran Kennedy (20 yard strike) Best for Athletic were Michael Potts, Sean Courtney & Adam Dennehy. The second team went down 2-0 to Castleisland despite missing a number of players. It was 0-0 at half time and unfortunately Castleisland got a goal with 10 minutes remaining. With Athletic needing to score, A Castleisland counter attack got the vital goal. Best for Athletic were Cian Tangney, Renaldas Bendikaitas and Lee Linehan.
Under 11
Killarney Athleic 11 B team were unlucky to lose 3-1 to Behy Rovers in cup game. A very competitive game played in great spirit. All played well with Seamus Gallagher and Harry Potts impressing.
