Killarney Athletic 4 Listowel Celtic 1
Great performance today by the squad who made the long trip back to Listowel. We dominated the match from the first whistle to the last, we did everything right on the day. The opposition saw very little of the ball, with Paudie Clifford, Aydan Mulvaney and David Sheerin dominating midfield it was only a matter of time before we took the lead. Mark O'Shea, Dylan O'Sulivan and Chris O'Meara’s work rate and movement up front was very good and was very difficult for the Listowel defence to defend. With saying that we knew Listowel would be hard to break down but our boys were very patient on the ball and this paid off with 2 goals going into the break. The second half was a similar affair. We kept possession of the ball and again were very patient and waited for the right moment to attack. Two more goals were scored one from an excellent counter attack with one touch passing from which Paudie Clifford scored. With goalkeeper Johnny O' Leary and the back line of Shane Lyne, Brendan Cronin, Cillian O' Regan and Caiman Mangan we were very solid and only looked like a set piece would undo our defence. To Listowel's credit they worked hard and did not drop their heads and from a free kick they pulled one back with a brilliant strike that no keeper would have saved. With the introduction of Adam O'Shea, Eoin O'Meara and Darren Doherty we could have added a few more but the important goals were already scored and the 3 points secured. Goalscorers were Paudie Clifford 2, Mark O'Shea and Cillian O'Regan. Man of the Match Mark O' Shea. Total football again, a joy to watch and the management is delighted for the squad who have worked so hard to get to this level, long may it last. Perfect 10, played 10 won 10.
Under 14 League
Killarney Athletic 3 Killarney Celtic 1
This was Athletic’s first outing of the new year and it took them a while to settle into the game. Athletic started to get grip in midfield through Reece Hegarty, Liam Curran, Jack Sweeney and Rory O’Keeffe who in turn supplied Jason Coffey and Fionnbharr Hickey with plenty of good ball. With Athletic’s back five of Jonathon Mee in goal Kieran Sugrue, David O’Mahony, Jonathon Green and Sean O’Neill getting on top Athletic started to play well as a unit. Fionnbharr Hickey and Jason Coffey put Athletic 2 up before Celtic pulled 1 back before the break. Jason Coffey scored again for Athletic to seal all three points for Athletic and a real solid performance. Others to do well when introduced were J J Buckley, Kieran Thompson and Shaves.
