Killarney Athletic A.F.C. Notes
Seniors
Kerry District League Premier A
Killarney Athletic 1 Listowel Celtic 1
The wind roared and the rain came down intermittently in Killarney Athletic Park but these two sides could not be separated in a game of two halves. Athletic dominated proceedings for most of the first half although Listowel could have capitalised on some indecision from the home side early on. With Brian O’Reilly and new dad Martin Crowley finding their feet, along with the returning Lukas Polak, the lead for the home side soon looked inevitable. Having lost heavily in the cup, Listowel battled away against the wind to keep them out and instead, took the lead after a lapse in the home defence.
Undeterred, Brian O’Connor led the defence from the back with some great saves and deliveries in the second half to keep out a Listowel side with the bit between its teeth. With more composure at the back in the shape of twin towers Gary and Colin Moynihan and with Denis Galvin and Rory O’Sullivan looking sharp and eager to get involved, Athletic withstood some pressure and pushed for the equaliser. Eventually, Polak rifled it home after a decent combination between O’Sullivan and Galvin. Try as they may, the lads could not pierce the Listowel defence again but this was a pleasing performance from a team short of a few regulars. Team: Brian O’Connor, Seán O’Donoghue, Gary Moynihan, Martin Crowley, Pa McClure, Brian O’Reilly, Joe Hurley (Colin Moynihan), Lukas Polak, Rory O’Sullivan, JP Mullins, Denis Galvin.
Killarney Athletic Youths 2 Park Youths 1
Our Youths are through to the league final thanks to a 2-1 win over the Park on Saturday in Mounthawk Park. Playing in very windy conditions Athletic took the game to the Park from the start and took the lead through a well worked goal by Connor McGill. Against the run of play Park leveled just before half time. When Athletic took the lead again it looked like there was going to be only one winner but it took a penalty save from man of the match Cian Horan to insure our passage to the final. Well done lads.

Brendan Moloney – Nottingham Forest
Well done to Brendan on clinching a play-off spot on Saturday with Forest. He set up the 2nd goal magnificently. The visitors continued to create the better opportunities and they all but guaranteed a play-off spot in the 69th minute. Brendan was the orchestrator, sending in a right wing cross which Tudgay headed home. Best of luck in the play-off against Crystal Palace tonight.
