Killarney Athletic 1 Castleisland 1
Killarney Athletic's ‘A’ team drew 1-1 with Castleisland in the Kerry Cup. Athletic were down 1 nil after 10 minutes after some sloppy defending and a poor first half but a very good fight back.Better in the second half with Polyak to grab an equalizer with 10 minutes to go and could have won it at the end. Best for Athletic were Polyak, Galvin and Bunion over all a good performance with a depleted team.
Under 16
Athletic finished the season with wins away to the Park in Tralee and Mastergeeha. A hat-trick from man of the match Anthony Cronin was the highlight of the game v Mastergeeha. This set up a vital game v Killarney Celtic with the winners going through to meet Kingdom Boys in the final of the U16 League. The game played in Woodlawn was a tremendous contest with both teams very committed and lots of chances being created at both ends. Celtic took the lead and led 1-0 at half time but Athletic kept the pressure on and finally got the break through with an excellent headed equaliser from Ronan Murphy following a corner. Athletic took the foot off the pedal for a couple of minutes after scoring and Celtic took full advantage with the winning goal coming 5 minutes from time. The game was a credit to both sides. Stephen Cahillane was excellent in goal for Athletic and overall it was a very good team performance.
Under 14
Killarney Athletic 0 Listowel 0
Killarney Athletic 3 Killarney Celtic 0
With the league coming to a close Athletic are still in good form which was displayed recently with two good away results. An away point in Listowel (0 -0 draw) and a fine away win in the local derby versus Celtic. The latter was a typical derby with no quarter asked and none given in the first half and remained 0 – 0 at the break. A few tactical changes saw Athletic gain control and when Jason Brennan put Athletic ahead it was no more than they deserved. Kieran Murphy scored a fine goal when he beat the offside trap then rounded the keeper and finished to the net. Athletic rounded off the scoring when Daniel O’Sullivan headed to the net after beating the Celtic Keeper to a high cross. Next up for Athletic is the U – 14 cup semi final in Killarney.
All the Best!
The management and staff would like to wish Martin Crowley and his wife to be Lisa Kearney a very happy life together.
