Killarney Athletic A.F.C. Notes
Seniors
Killarney Athletic 2 Classic F.C. 1
Killarney Athletic came out on top in a crucial league encounter in Mounthawk Park on Sunday morning. Classic were first out of the traps and caused Athletic some difficulty for the first twenty minutes. Despite two good chances for the home side, Athletic went in front when Lukas Polak found himself free on the left and rifled it home. This gave some encouragement to a lacklustre Athletic team and ably supported by a solid back four, they improved for the rest of the half. The second half saw Martin Crowley and Brian O’Reilly continue to battle away in midfield and Cian Tobin became more of a threat on the left. He went on to score number two, finishing after an effort from a game Paul Lynch was parried after some good touches from substitute J.P. Mullins. Timmy Lynch gave Classic hope with a sweet finish five minutes from the end of normal time but Athletic held out to clinch a vital win. Best for Athletic were Brian O’Connor, Gary Moynihan, Conor Farrell, Patrick MacClure, Mark Griffin, Lukas Polak, Paul Lynch and Cian Tobin.

At half time 2 nil but an own goal let Iveragh back into the game and within a few minutes Iveragh made it 2 nil. This brought it to extra time and an own goal by Iveragh sealed the win for Athletic. The conditions were very bad but a great win for us and the semis await us. Best for Athletic were David Shaw. David Naughton, Mark O’Shea but it was a great team performance by all.

Nottingham Forest trip – Under 12
Our under 12’s went on a trip to Nottingham Forest last weekend. It was a resounding success and a great time was had by all our thanks to the Nottingham coaches who put up an agenda for our under 12 team. It was a fun packed 3 days but the high light came on Saturday night when our own Brendan Maloney turned up to present the players with their trophies. Player of the year went to Billy Courtney, goal of the year went to Daniel O’Brien and Ronan Curran got a trophy for best attendance. Brendan Maloney gave man of match James Sauter the under 21 jersey he wore while playing for Ireland and our thanks to Brendan for this special gift. My thanks to the parents and the under 12s who made this possible and to Frank Shaw who gave so much of his time to make this a great trip. Also a special mention to Damien McCormack who, without him this trip would not have happened. Also a big thank you to O’Donoghue Ring Hotels, Charlie Foleys, The Speakeasy, The Failte, Jades, Daly’s Supervalu & Vincent Casey Life & Pensions for their kind sponsorship to the under 12’s recent trip to Nottingham Forest.
