Seniors lose Greyhound Bar Cup Final in Injury Time

Greyhound Bar Cup Final
Killarney Athletic 0 Killarney Celtic 1
The seniors relinquished the first part of a potential double in dramatic circumstances in Mounthawk Park on Saturday night.
Celtic had most of the play in the early exchanges with Robert Watson looking dangerous, but some good work from Shane Bunyan and the impressive Ryan O’Carroll kept Athletic in touch. Yellow cards for Galen Carroll, Denis Galvin, Michael Moloney and John Doyle showed up the combative nature of the game but there was no dividing the teams before the break. Celtic did not capitalise on their chances, while Athletic were too wasteful in possession. An ominous sign for the team in blue however was the sterling performance of Michael Moloney in the centre of defence for the first 45 minutes.
It was well balanced again early in the second period but the pattern was the same with O’Carroll and Bunyan showing well for Athletic and the physicality of both teams leaving nothing to the imagination. A couple of half chances for Galvin sparked a purple patch for Athletic but Doyle and Hayes were keeping it very tight at the back for Celtic. In a rare lapse by the Celtic back-four, Galvin could have been the difference between the sides when presented with a gilt-edged chance, but his effort was saved by the solid Gustafik.
With the crowd looking ahead to a replay, Celtic claimed victory in injury time when Vladamir Sorotiak sent it home with a clinical last-ditch effort from a corner.
The lads will be disappointed with losing in such fashion but if they can capitalise on their possession next time out, the league could still be theirs. The quality is there so it’s a case of making it count. Best of luck lads!
