Seniors progress to next round of the cup

Greyhound Bar Cup Killarney Athletic 5 Mastergeeha 2
With three goals to spare over Mastergeeha in the cup, the seniors continued to regain form. Brian O’Reilly needed a mere 40 seconds for number one, finishing after good work by Lukas and Ryan O’Carroll. It took 34 more minutes for the second and this time Patrick MacClure picked out Lukas who sent it home. Six minutes later, O’Carroll got his name on the score sheet but only after a let-off when a Mastergeeha effort bounced over the bar with the goal open.
Despite a great penalty save from Brian O’Connor, the Athletic defence allowed ‘Geeha in to pull one back. Then the ever-dangerous Denis Galvin made the win safe with number four. Substitute David Gleeson finished with aplomb after a fine run down the left for number five. Derry Ahern scored Mastergeeha’s second from a free-kick but Athletic will be pleased to have come out on top.
Bar a few lapses in concentration this was a good team performance. The back four of Mark Griffin, Patrick MacClure, Conor Farrell and especially Gary Moynihan were well up to the task, ably anchored by Brian O’Connor. Brian O’Reilly and Martin Crowley were solid and combative in midfield, while Inigio and O’Carroll were a constant threat on the wings. Lukas Polak and Galvin combined well up front and Gleeson and the evergreen Paul Lynch did well on introduction. With continued endeavour and teamwork the momentum can continue.
