Killarney Athletic Notes

Senior Team
Killarney Athletic A 4 Killorglin 4 in Premier League
Killarney Athletic were 2 down at half time but rallied well in second half to be 4 – 2 up, but conceded two soft goals in the last 10 minutes. Disappointing at the finish but tried hard. The goal scorers were Denis Galvin 2, Brian O'Reilly and Martin Crowley. Bit of a setback but onwards and upwards.

Killarney Athletic 1 Kenmare 4
We made the trip to Kenmare missing several players and it was always going to be an uphill task, Kenmare drew first blood early on in the game and could have been further ahead only for Steven Cahillane, we drew level at the start of the second half when some neat play down the right hand side by Jack Cahill and Ronan Murphy released Gavin O’Shea who put in a superb cross to leave Diarmuid Galvin finish to the net with a great header, Kenmare then got goal no. 2, and when we went in search of another equaliser we left gaps at the back which the home team exploited to leave the final score 4-1, which flattered the home side to say the least. Best on a disappointing day for us were Ronan Murphy, Cian O’Lionaird, Diarmuid Galvin, Gavin O’Shea and the outstanding Steven Cahillane.

Killarney Athletic 5 Listowel 4
Killarney Athletic were at home to Listowel and won 5 goals to 4 goals in horrible conditions in a game that was end to end and very exciting Athletic came out on top. 3 goals by striker David Shaw man of the match one goal each by Brendan Coppinger and the winner by Billy Courtney sealed the win and 3 points for Athletic against a very good Listowel team who came back from 4 goals to one down to 4 goals. All the under 11s travel to Listowel next Saturday for the 5 a side indoor tournament.

Killarney Athletic 3 Listowel Celtic 2
Talk about making hard work for ourselves! Despite being in control from the start this game should have been put to bed within 15 minutes. Jordan Kiely scored in the first minute to start the ball rolling but despite coming at them in waves…we just couldn’t put the ball in the net! Good work from Danny Healy, Caiman Mangan, David Sheerin and Chris O’Meara went unrewarded until Jordan Kiely scored a cheeky goal to go in 2-up at half time. Time to warm up the subs for a run until a defensive error allowed Listowel back into it at 2-1 and put us under pressure for a change. Sean McGrath then popped up to meet a neat pass to ping the ball into the top corner and restore order to the score! But a dubious penalty decision against Dylan Trant allowed Listowel finish the game at 3-2. Special mention to the Athletic sub bench who had waited patiently for their chance to get involved despite the terrible weather – your involvement in this squad is the backbone of its current success and your time will come. Well done all!
Best of luck:
Best of luck to Pat Harnett on his new venture.
Best wishes to Brian James in his new location.
Condolences: Sincere sympathy to the Ryan family on their recent sad loss.
