Seniors

Killarney Athletic  3Tralee Dynamos 3 after extra time. Athletic won 5 – 3 on penalties. Another cracking cup game this morning between our boys in blue and a much fancied Dynamos side, after 2 games plus extra time we prevailed on the penalty shootout. This was a cup match that had everything. 6 goals, sending offs, missed penalties and Heros everywhere in blue. This athletic team never know when their beaten and refused to accept defeat playing the last 40 minutes with just 10 players, after Lukas was unfortunately sent off for 2 yellows. Dynamos twice took the lead thru G but Athletic pulled them back with goals from Gavin O’Shea and Martin Crowley. We then hit the front through another Shane Doolan free kick and held out till the 92nd minute when Tralee pressure finally told and they bundled home the equaliser to force extra time. Dynamos as expected held the majority of possession during extra time but Doolan, Reilly Milner the two Cillians and all the boys refused to be beaten and finally win thru in the dreaded penalty shootout with all 5 Athletic penalties expertly dispatched. Tralee Dynamos is a great scalp for our lads to take and we now wish the Tralee side all the best in the Munster junior cup final in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile it’s the 1/4 finals and Listowel Celtic for us.

Youths

Abbeydorney 0 Killarney Athletic 4. This game was played bank holiday Monday in Mounthawk Park and with the strongest squad available, all 18 players went fighting for 11 places. This is unfortunate but shows the interest and the fight by the boys. Credit to Abbeydorney, they were well organised team and fought to the very end. Athletic created numerous chances and could have easily been more but for the Abbeydorney keeper who had a great game. Mikey Casey scored all 4 goals before being substituted but Eamonn Lavin was man of the match. We now play the winners of AC Athletic and Kenmare which is being played this weekend so expect the home quarter final next weekend. Training this Wednesday 7.45pm at Woodlawn.
