Killarney Athletic A.F.C. Notes

Seniors

Greyhound Bar Cup Semi-Final played at Mounthawk Park

Killarney Athletic 4 Camp Utd 3

Despite the close score line, the seniors were pretty comfortable going into the last quarter of this game and never looked like relinquishing the lead. It was 0-0 at the break after a tense first half. Camp had chances on the break for the most part and a passionate Athletic kept them out. Cian Tobin, Brian O’Connor and the impressive Mark Griffin kept Athletic organised at the back and with good support from Gary Moynihan and a youthful Pa McClure, the foundations were there for a solid performance. Ryan O’Carroll was pressing the right buttons in the middle of the park and it looked like Athletic could do it with a bit more composure on the ball. Cue David Gleeson with the first immediately after the break after a scintillating run down the right. Lukas Polak chipped in with two more – the first a sweet header, the second an opportunistic finish. Martin Crowley and Brian O’Reilly were now cruising in the middle of the park, while Camp tried hard to conjure up something. 3-0 to the good, Athletic could not stop a great strike from Camp to pull one back but some lax defending let them in for a second. Undeterred, Adam Moynihan, who performed with gusto on the left of midfield, collected the ball at the halfway line and broke at speed. He then picked out Crowley on the right, who coolly slotted it home to ease Athletic into a 4-2 lead. A penalty at the death caused some hearts to flutter but there was only going to be one winner with Brian O’Connor, Eamon Ahern, Denis Galvin and James Coffey showing well up to the end. Well done lads for showing such heart and determination. It augurs well for the final. Let’s keep it going!
