Results:
Under 16 National Cup
Killarney Athletic 3 Ballymackey 0.
We kicked off our National Cup last Saturday at home against Ballymackey, Tipperary. We were in control from the start and dominated in all sectors of the field. It wasn’t long before we opened the scoring with a penalty after a great run from the wing by Dylan O’Sullivan, Ronan Buckley slotted the spot kick home confidently .We set up the pace for the rest of the game with Athletic pushing forward with some marvellous passing movements and again this resulted in a wonder goal with a move that started from goalkeeper Dara Curran right through the field with some swift passing movement and in a great finish from Adam O’Shea. Our 3rd goal came shortly after this again with some class passing we opened the Ballymackey defence and Dylan O’Sullivan took his goal brilliantly. The pace dropped a little in the second half with a lot of near misses, however if this team continue to play soccer like they did on Saturday they will again take some beating this year. There were a number of debutants on Saturday who performed very well namely Lee O’Donoghue and Conor Randel. There is a very good panel this year and every player is going to have to fight for his place which is very good for the team, so plenty of hard work over the next few months for these boys and hopefully they will be competing for honours as the season progresses. Thanks to all the parents for the catering and help also.
Under 15 B
Played well despite losing to park 5 1 to St Brendan’s Park. With a number of players missing, it was a tough game. Tommy Counihan with the goal. Best for Athletic were Tommy Counihan, Jake Moynihan and Murt O’Shea
Under 14 National Cup
Killarney Athletic 6 St. Brendan’s Park 2 after extra time. This was a one man show with Michael Potts scoring 5 goals and assisting with Liam Currans goal. In fact Liam’s goal was the first attack of the game. Potts then scored his first midway through the 1st half with a 25 yard screamer to the top corner of the net. With ten minutes to play, Athletic were still 2 nil up despite not playing well (we blaming fifa 13) Park grew in confidence and scored 2 quick goals to send the game into extra time. Maybe it was Damien and Connies wake up speech at the start of extra time that inspired the boys to wake up and Michael Potts quickly completed goals 2, 3, 4 and 5 with the last goal the only one inside the box. Goal 4 coming from the halfway line. Well done Michael and well done team. Home to Broadford Utd in the next round. Training Wednesday at 7.00 as normal.
Under 14 B
Under 14 b’s lost 6 4 to St Brendan’s Park in the league with Reece Hegarty scoring 2, debutant Finbarr Hickey and Stephen Daly also scoring.
