Killarney Athletic A.F.C. Notes
Senior B Team
Killarney Athletic 1 Asdee 2
The B team unfortunately were defeated away to Asdee. We took an early lead through a Rafael Syc header after a lovely cross from Ryan O’Carroll but some poor marking from a corner resulted in Asdee drawing level despite the best efforts of KJ Griffin on the post. However, the team didn’t let their heads drop and kept battling hard, restricting the opposition’s chances, without creating many more first half chances ourselves but JP Mullins could have scored the most spectacular goal of the year when he volleyed from outside the box and the ball looked destined for the top corner only for the Asdee keeper to pull off a top drawer save to keep it out! We could have been a further goal behind but for KJ clearing the ball off the line after the initial shot had beaten our keeper, Aaron Quill, who made a few very good saves in the game. The 2nd half was a wide open affair with lots of end to end action and plenty of work for the centre back pairing of Sean O’Donoghue and Tommy Slattery to do but they dealt with everything admirably. The central midfield of Gary Moynihan and Robin O’Day contested well all day and set up numerous chances for the strikers, Ossie and Rafa, with the best 2 falling to Rafa but the keeper was out bravely and sharp each time! Asdee took the lead from another corner after an obvious Athletic free out wasn’t given! Pa McClure saw the ball at his feet quite a lot and was excellent throughout, causing lots of problems from his free kicks. JP, who put in another honest and hardworking performance, and Damien McCormick, when introduced, did their best down the flanks causing the full backs a few problems. Brian O’Mahony and Robin had chances late on but we just couldn’t snatch an equaliser! Unlucky lads but a good performance in the circumstances! Team: Aaron Quill, KJ Griffin, Sean O’Donoghue, Tommy Slattery, Pa McClure, JP Mullins, Gary Moynihan, Robin O’Day, Ryan O’Carroll, Osvaldo de Quadros, Rafael Syc. Subs: Brian O’Mahony, Damien McCormick, Florence McCarthy, Savio dos Santos.
