Killarney Athletic Notes
Under 16
Killarney Athletic 0 Killarney Celtic 2
We came up short against our local rivals who got their two goals inside the first ten minutes. We started the game missing several players so it was always going to be hard to beat a strong Celtic side, our best chance to pull a goal back was when Diarmuid Galvin shot narrowly wide from just inside the box. The start of the second half was a lot better for us with Gavin O’Shea, Padraig Healy, Keith Flynn and Cian O’Lionard to the fore, but we just found it too hard to get past the Celtic back four. Best for us were Gavin O’Shea, Jason Lyne, TJ O’Sullivan and Rory O’Riordan. Once we get everyone back fit and playing we will give any team in the league a run for their money!
Under 14 League
Killarney Athletic 1 Park 4
Always a good match for goals – this game was played at a 100-mile an hour pace. End to end stuff meant that any team could have been ahead but it was Park who eventually scored. We had another top class performance by Chris O’Meara in defence ably assisted by the tenacity of Darragh Coffey and Shane Lyne. Midfield of Danny Healy, Cillian Regan, Brendan Cronin and Caiman Mangan worked their socks off and never gave quarter to the Park lads which showed in their frustration with the dose of yellow cards handed out. Ziauel Hoque and David Sheerin lead the line against a well organised Park defence and won a penalty that was expertly taken by our goalkeeper Johnny O’Leary to put with his Man of the Match display between the sticks with some top- drawer saves. Special credit to the rest of the lads of Kyle Griffin, Dylan Trant, David Murphy, Mark O’Shea and John O’Brien who contributed as much on the pitch as anyone especially with the number of injuries we picked up. Great performance from the lads -so watch this space!
