Killarney Athletic Notes
Under 12 National Cup
Killarney Athletic 1 Fairview Rangers (Limerick) 3 After Extra Time
3 goals to 1 after extra time. In extra time Fairview Rangers scored an equalizer due to a penalty being allowed which was very unfair. Athletic led at half time David Shaw got our goal. Billy Courtney and David Naughton were excellent. Aodain de Brun had a good game in goal.
Under 14 National Cup
Regional Limerick 1 Killarney Athletic 1
(Athletic win 4-2 on pens)
The National Cup is always a chance to experiment and give different lads a run out. We were all over Limerick and how we came in at half time at only 1-0 remains a mystery. Chris O’Meara played a Man of the Match display in the defence topping it off by scoring our only goal as well. Shane Lyne, Darragh Coffey, Cillian O’Regan, Ziauel Hoque and new-boys Ayden Mulvanney and Corey Doyle worked their socks off as well striker for the day John O’Brien. The 2nd half brought no further luck and Limerick scored on literally their only attack to bring the match to penalties – always the best part of any Champions League final!! This was time for goalkeeper Johnny O’Leary to shine by not only saving 3 penos but stepping up and scoring Athletics first as well followed by Chris O’Meara, Ayden Mulvanney and Shane Lyne. A hard fought match but a good day out for all! Off to Limerick for the next leg as well.
